Guitar Music
This page is for online guitar lessons. It includes advice on the most important things to practice for each piece. However I regret that I can't answer individual questions from learners about tunes featured here.
WHISKEY IN THE JAR
Check out the guitar TAB here
Play the first note with the first finger of your right hand on the second string, then the open G (third) string with your thumb. Continue with the same right hand pattern throughout.
Practice using Step Learning, like this:
Practice the right hand pattern, finger second string, then thumb 3rd string on the open strings without the left hand notes.
Then practice playing just the melody notes on the second string using your first finger, without the third string notes.
Then put it all together. If you're using a plectrum, substitute upstrokes for first finger notes and downstrokes for thumb strokes.
I'LL GO CRAZY EXERCISE
This is a great exercise for sweep picking. I adapted it from the James Brown tune.
Make sure your right hand pick directions are all correct. Practice it slowly, looping the different bars one at a time.
Heres a Beatles tune which we play in some of my guitar groups.
ALL MY LOVING MELODY IN THIRDS
And here's the TAB for the intro to Stairway To Heaven.
In this piece you can hear the connection between Elizabethan music and blues. Practice holding the left chord shapes first, strumming each once and making sure that you hear all the notes.
Then practice repeating the right hand patterns over one chord at a time; T 1 2 3 T 1 2 3 and 3 2 1 2 3 2 1 2.
Another Beatles tune which is easy to play;
Here is TAB plus exercises for the fingerpicking classic "Candyman"
